There's A New "Squid" in Town ... The Surface Tension Lure is a top water bait which is molded with impact resistant ABS plastic and built with thru-wire construction. The design and construction allows for extremely long and accurate casts even with a strong onshore wind. The Surface Tension Lure has been proven effective for Striped Bass, Bluefish, False Albacore, and Bonito. This lure features 3-dimensional holographic eyes and die-cut, holographic tape protected in both channels. The channel design enables the plug to be worked on the surface with relatively slow or fast retrieval speeds depending on the water conditions and the feeding habits of the fish. Lemire's Plugworks:Calamari Surface Plugs
The noise generated by this surface plug will attract striped bass and other fish every time. A deep gusset in the mouth of the calamari plug pushes the maximum amount of water and gets the attention of stripers. Quickly twitching the rod 3 or 4 times, then slowing down and chugging, then stopping for a few seconds before repeating these actions, will work best to attract striped bass. 
All our wooden plugs are hand-turned; sealed to prevent water intrusion; primed; air-brushed and top coated with durable clear coat; and assembled with 4x strong "vmc" hooks stainless steel wire and heavy duty split rings and swivels.

Gibbs Polaris PopperAll time favorite and finished in a traditional popper fashion. The key to using this popper is to vary the speed, even letting it come to a rest on occasion. Impart only enough rod tip action to splash the water and create the audible "gurgle." The most common error in fishing these poppers is using too much rod action. Only a small twitch is needed as sound will travel fast under water.

Gibbs Darter Lures (3 oz.)
The Gibbs Darter Lure is powerful saltwater plug that is well-suited for rocky shorelines and any rips, inlets, or heavy currents. The Gibbs Wooden Darter attracts stripers by imitating many types of baitfish that may be wounded or struggling against strong currents. The 3-ounce darter is Gibbs' first wired-through wooden darter; its 6-inch length and large profile attracts large, hungry fish; and the Gibbs Darter casts long and true in strong breezes and holds its own in the strongest riptides and surf.
Saltwater darters get the best results when cast in the current and given a quick pop to get them started, followed by a slow steady retrieve while working the plug from side-to-side to the surface. The darters can be either be reeled across the current, or allowed to wiggle on a tight line as the current sweeps them. A moderate jerk and pause will often get the stripers to attack. |

The unique swimming action of this classic Gibbs surface plug is what sets it apart from other surface swimmers. The Danny Surface Swimmer pivots from a fulcrum in the center of its body (unlike minnow-type surface plugs that swim from the nose). This realistic swimming action closely resembles the movement of larger baitfish that big bass are attracted to, accounting for the great success of the Gibbs Danny Surface Swimmer Lure.
Danny Surface Swimmer Features: Two VMC treble belly hooks, Mustad tail hook, Spro Swivels (330 lb. test), Wolverine Split Rings (260 lb. test), and heavier gauge stainless steel thru-wire (.065) for added strength. Danny Surface Swimmer Fishing Tips: It is advised to let the current do most of the work and vary your retrieve as you move the bait through different types of water. Leave the Danny lure in the water as long as possible, so its dead-slow wobble will entice fish to become aggressive and strike. An effective technique is causing the plug to spurt or splash lightly with an occasional jerk of the rod tip. A steadier retrieve is advised for night fishing. Fine-tuning should be restricted to the stainless wire eye of the plug (leave pan lip in original shape). Bend the eye up slightly for a deeper retriever, and bend the eye down for more surface action. The Danny Surface Swimmer will work better from a black "Duo Lock" snap for a freer swimming action (a swivel is not needed). Remember to keep the hooks sharp and re-tie frequently to keep a fresh line! |
